Noorani Qaida lesson 4:Vowel letters, diacritics; kasra, fatha, damma:
These diacritics when we add to the letter, its sound will be affected according to the diacritics type. If we put the Kasra (كسر), it will give the letter a short vowel like “i”. If we put the Damma (ضم) , it will give the letter a short vowel like “u”. If we put the”Fatha (فتح), it will give the letter a short vowel like “a”
Noorani Qaida lesson 5: the nunated letters
When we put the tanween on the letter, it indicates a nun sound at the end of a word. This tanween may be ً (fathatan) indicating “an” sound, ٍ (kasratan) indicating “in” sound, ٌ (dammatan) indicating “un” sound.
When we add tanween, the letter becomes a nunated letter. In this lesson, you practice this till you feel these diacritics become familiar with, just like an isolated letter.

You will feel that distinguishing between the different diacritics is sometimes confusing but this feeling will vanish gradually with exercise.

The Quranic script is characterized by specific marks to show you how to pronounce them correctly. The superscript letters usually alif, waw, and yaa indicate the prolongation of the vowel sound.
In this lesson, you will practice these letters. If there is a small alif, you will say “a” sound. In case of a small waw, you will say the “u” sound, and in case of a small yaa, you will say the “i” sound.
Noorani Qaida lesson 8: “letters of elongation” or “madd letters” “letters of softness” or “lean letters”
Although the difference between elongation and lean letters is very slight, it affects the existence of these letters and thus their sound.
1- “letters of elongation” ” or “madd letters”
In the case of ا (alif), it happens when the alif is preceded by a fatḥa on the previous letter. In the case of و (waw), it takes place when the و (waw) is preceded by a damma on the previous letter. Finally, in the case of ي (yaa), it happens when the yaa is preceded by a kesra on the previous letter. Articulation Points of Madd letters are the space in the mouth or specific lip/tongue positions without obstructions.
2- “letters of softness” or “lean letters”
Leen letters are Composed of و (waw) or ي (yaa) when they are preceded by a fatḥa on the previous letter. Articulation Points of lean letters involve a softer sound that occurs in diphthongs.
