What Every Kid Needs to Learn About His Religion
Every kid needs to know first that all humans have three sides; body, mind and heart. They should learn that these three sides are connected. Thus, everyone should take care of his body, mind and heart. They should learn the three objective sciences according to their level of understanding, memorize Quran and learn how to socialize with others.
1. Learning the three objective sciences
The religion is divided into three categories; Islam, Faith and Excellence . Through three objective sciences; Fiqh, ‘Aqedah and Tazkiah, every person can control his actions, ideas and feelings generated from his body, mind and heart respectively.
Islam | Faith | Excellence (Ihsan) |
Cultivation | Knowing Allah Almighty | Self-purification |
Fiqh | ‘Aqedah | Tazkiah |
Body | Mind | Heart |
Actions | Ideas | Feelings |
A. Fiqh
They should learn the five pillars of Islam.
Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Islam is based on five (pillars): testifying that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and Messenger; performing of Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat); the payment of Zakat; performing Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House [of Allah (Ka’bah)]; and Saum (fasting) during the month of Ramadan.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
B. ‘Aqedah
They should learn the six pillars of faith by affirming their faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting, His Apostles, and believing in the Resurrection and the Divine Decree in all its entirety.
C. Tazkiah
We can reflect on the following Prophetic Hadith.
Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said:
One day, I was riding behind the Prophet (ﷺ) when he said, “O boy! I will instruct you in some matters. Be watchful of Allah (Commandments of Allah), He will preserve you. Safeguard His Rights, He will be ever with you. If you beg, beg of Him Alone; and if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah Alone for help. And remember that if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah had foreordained (for you); and if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you. The pens had been lifted and the ink had dried up”.
[At- Tirmidhi, who categorized it as Hadith Hasan Sahih]
2. Memorizing the Quran

So, we should know what are the things considered obligatory for Muslims to know And what every kid needs to learn about his religion. We should train our kids during their childhood and help them build good traits. Our kids need to learn the three objective sciences, memorize the Quran and learn how to socialize with others.
It is our responsibility to show them the way to Allah and guide them to the right path before getting involved in the earthly world. We should build a shelter for them against deviations and misconceptions spreading nowadays. What about building our life to fit the Islamic lifestyle not vice versa?
