Prophet Yaqub understood that it was a true dream (Ru’ya) from Allah (SWT) that Yusuf would be a prophet and Allah would teach him dream interpretation.

The Brothers of Yusuf aimed to take him away from their father and get rid of him. They Knew prophet Yaqub (PBUH) wouldn’t let him leave easily. They claimed they wanted to take him for a trip in the desert where they would take care of him. However, They threw him into a deep well and left him behind claiming to their father that a wolf ate him.
Story of Prophet Yusuf at Egypt’s Governor’s House In The Quran
After his brothers left, passengers passed by the well to drink water where they found Yusuf staying alone there. They took him and sold him as a slave to Egypt’s Governor. When this man returned home with Yusuf, he ordered his wife to take care of Yusuf as they could take him as a son.
However, when Yusuf grew up, the governor’s wife aimed at having an illegal relationship with Yusuf. She called him, closed the doors, and invited him to do such a relationship. Yusuf (PBUH) refused and hurried to the door to exit, yet he found her husband at the door.
When she saw her husband, she lied saying that Yusuf deserved a great punishment for his bad deed. A man from her family suggested seeing from which side Yusuf’s clothes were cut to decide who was innocent. When they found Yusuf’s clothes cut from behind, they understood Yusuf was innocent. However, Yusuf (PBUH) was put in prison unjustly.

When Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) was put in prison, he had two companions in the same room. These companions used to ask him about the interpretations of their dreams. Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) took the opportunity to call them to Allah (SWT).
One of these two companions dreamt he would be working for an important man in society after he gets out of prison. Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) asked him to tell his owner the story of Prophet Yusuf’s unjust imprisonment when his dream came true. However, this man got out of prison and forgot about Prophet Yusuf’s case.
Story of The King’s Dream Interpretation In The Quran
It happened that the king of Egypt dreamt of seven thin cows eating seven big cows and seven green wheat stalks as well as seven dry ones. He was very overwhelmed by that dream and none of his entourage satisfied him with a correct interpretation.
Yusuf’s old companion of the prison finally remembered prophet Yusuf (PBUH). He told the King he could tell them the dream’s interpretation. He went to Yusuf (PBUH) where he told them what the dream meant.
The dream meant that the Egyptians would diligently cultivate their crops for seven years and keep their crops in their stalks as a reservoir except for what they eat. Then there would be seven arid years that would consume their pre-prepared reservoir. Then, there would be a productive, fruitful year where people would be relieved.

When the king heard of Yusuf’s amazing interpretation, he asked for him to come. Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) wanted to leave prison with his innocence declared, so he refused to go with the guards except after the king look into his case of imprisonment.
When Prophet Yusuf’s innocence was declared, the king wanted to keep Yusuf as one of his close counselors. Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) asked the king to make him responsible for the country’s financial reservoir, and the king accepted his request.
Story of Prophet Yusuf’s Reunion with His Brothers In The Quran
Story of Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) -as a governor- used to supply the families with the crops reservoir during the seven arid years.
One day, a group of brothers came to him asking for their crops. Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) recognized them and knew they were his brothers. He also realized his closest brother was not among them.
Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) honored them and supplied them with what they needed. However, he refused to further supply them except when they bring their other brother.
When his brothers returned to their father (Prophet Yaqub) he didn’t trust their claim and thought they were deceiving him as they did with Yusuf in the past. However, when they opened their bags, they found that their supplies had been fulfilled which encouraged them to return to the governor to get an additional supply for their brother. Their father agreed and took the pledge they would return their brother back safe.
When they returned to Yusuf with their brother, he again fulfilled their supplies. However, he made a trick to keep his brother with him. He ordered his servants to put his cup in the bag of his close brother and claimed he stole it.
Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) whispered to his brother he is Yusuf to not be afraid. When his brothers returned, they were ashamed to be without their brother. Prophet Yaqoob cried vigorously out of sadness till he went blind. He ordered his sons to go searching for Yusuf and his brother and to not lose trust in Allah.
Story of Prophet Yusuf’s Dream Comes True In The Quran
Prophet Yusuf’s brothers returned to him begging him to give them out of his kindness. Yusuf (PBUH) reminded them of their brother Yusuf whom they threw in the well in the past. They finally recognized he was Yusuf, their brother. They regretted their bad deeds and acknowledged Yusuf (PBUH) was better than them.
Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) gave them a piece of his cloth with them to put on the eyes of his father so that he could return to see. He also ordered them to bring their whole family the next time.
When they all returned to Yusuf, he honored his parents by sitting them down on the throne where they all prostrated to him.
Prophet Yusuf was amazed and told his father that was the interpretation of his dream before. He forgave his brothers saying that their sin was out of the Devil, prayed to Allah, and praised him!
